Post subject: | UT2004 load speed |
I have a fast PC. Still, it takes forever for UT4 to load and unload. I have 512mb PC2700 ram and an XP 2100 chip. Should starting a game take so long. It takes close to a minute to start a network game. Grrrr. I just started my own tournament on UT 2004 tonight. I have it set to novice and just blew right through the Deathmatch part. I might have died about 5 time total. I'm at the Double Domination stage now and will try to get through it tomorrow. Never payed it before. Later |

I have 512 PC3200 400MHz DDR clocked to match, Xp ThroughBreed 2400.....and I was wondering the same thing. I play ArmyOps too, which uses the unreal game engine and has large maps.....it takes a while to load a map as well...about the same amount of time as UT2K4....I am thinking it has to do with the network sync of the client and sever maps...I thought the old unreal only loaded a portion of the maps into memory on client side. Maybe the new one loads the whole map....not sure....but my best guess. |

I use Cacheman on my main machine to see how much ram I have free. After exiting UT2K4, my 1gig of memory is reduced to 80 free megs. If the program has a memory leak in it, could that be causing the delays? |

Sorry to say but I'm glad to hear it's slow for all of you too. I think it's just a major ram hog. I don't think it leaks because after I stop playing my PC is back to normal just like that. XP rules like that. Good answers from all. Thanks! |

Would the amount of RAM you've got affect how quickly you can get going on the next map while playing online? I have 1 gig, and I've noticed that I'm always amoung the first to be able to play after a map change. Other players will show up during the first minute of play, but often their bot just stands around unmoving and they show a ping of 999. Finally when the map finishes loading for them they start to move around, and their ping has fallen to a normal level. I've seen people shoot at the bots of the unmoving players, but I don't recall seeing one of these 999 pinged players being killed. Weird eh? |

I like the invasion game a lot and I am always dead already before I even get in the game. Makes me mad as hell. Yes, I think that ram has everything to do with it. That and high speed connections. I'd get more ram but am playing on a 266 fsb board. I'd rather get a better board and better ram and just transfer the rest of my stuff over to it. That's what I'll do too so it's just a waiting game at this point. I plan to keep this board set up as is for about another year then I'll get one of the 64 bit chips and a board that supports it with all of the ata goodies and USB 2 stuff etc. |

What is DDR400? Isn't it the same as about PC3200? This is sad. Even simple ram is getting hard to figure out. |

PC 3200 refers to the bandwith, which is 3.2GB/s and that is used calculate the 400 MHz which is refered to as the Speed. They are directly related. PC3500 433MHz and so on. You should match your MOBO and Processor speed to the 400MHz. |

I adjust setting on screen for UT2k4 to pixel by 1024X768. it help by 30 seconds. Also I found this I can't find on my but it may help u http://www.ina-community.com/forums/sho ... did=368210 quote: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Originally posted by TooDaMCrazy would have been easier to just tell us what you changed..oh well... another thing you could do to cut on load times is in game.. go to settings>game and bottom right uncheck "preload all player skins" and you will see a big diff -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I just compared the 2 as I wanted to see what had been changed anyway. Re the unchecking Preload Skins in the interface - I had done that on my daughters machine. However, comparing her .ini and the posted one, the entries relating to this in her .ini were still set as "True"! I just started an online game from her machine (After altering her .ini) and the map load times have shortened ... go work that out, strange .... seems like the .ini takes preference over the interface and the interface didnt alter the .ini! __________________ |
