So what are the differences? I'm pressed for time today, can't look it up. I understand that the SE version is on DVD instead of CD? And it comes with a nice little headset. Are there any other differences?

The "plain" version of the game is back in stock here for $49.99 Cdn. I was told that the SE version was selling for $79.99, which sounds like a made in Canada price alright. :?

If that price is right then I may as well buy the plain jane version. 80 bucks is just too rich for me. And as far as the headset goes, I have a mic on a stick I can use, and I have lots of old walkman headphones, I guess I can rig those up to work well enough.

I just wonder if I'm losing something very special by being too poor/cheap to fork out the extra cash?

Nah. You ain't loosing too much. The DVD edition is great because you only have to keep up with TWO disk instead of six. I think that there is also some footage of the making of UT2004, but who cares.

the other thing that sucks is Canadians can't get the $10 rebate if you bought UT2K3. Boo Hiss!

My brother is here in town today, and he told me of a good software dealer in Quebec. They want $58 for the SE version, and since they don't collect Ontario's PST for them, I save over 4 bucks by ordering from them. So I did. Free shipping too.

If they can't get me a copy I'm out nothing, but I think I may have a good chance of getting one from them, since they can't sell any software in English in Quebec, until they have the French language version to sell too. I may have to wait a few weeks, but it'll be worth it, all told. 8) :)

I think that Epic owes us more than $10 for 2003. Just my opinion 8)

ut2k3 was just the beta for 2k4, sounds like.

I hear you nameless -- I refuse to go out and pay full price for the game, so I will wait a bit for some deals.

So, anyone going to answer my question about the copy protection on 2k4? Purely academic interest.

I have already looked for two things. The no cd patch and the way to copy. Neither exist yet as near as I can tell. I would give it a week before either one become available too.

hey jarg

I love daemontools and have been using it for 3 years. way better than virtual cd.

looks like the game uses securom. in which case, don't get the dvd version, if you want to make a backup copy for yourself.

Don't have the DVD version, and you KNOW I'm gonna make a "backup copy" for myself

Actually, I think i will make a backup copy... That is way too many CD's and you know one of them will get scratched. :?

Scratching and convenience are the two primary reasons to make backups. If you image all the discs onto your HD, then you don't have to keep swapping them out.

Bah! They're out of stock for the SE version at that store in Quebec. I cancelled the order. Best Buy guarantees to have copies of the cd version of the game until the 25th of March for $39.99. So I'm going over there tomorrow and grabbing a copy.

I can check out headsets and prices while I'm over there.
