I've had 4 computer crashes so far, which seem to result from playing the UT 2004 demo, and then quitting out to go and play UT. Everything goes into safemode 16 colours and resolution, and I get a message saying that Windows has recovered from a device failure, please reboot. I got into the habit of going to the shutdown menu and choosing restart to avoid this, but it happened anyway just now. I'm hoping it's a glitch with the demo, and that the device failure is some sort of Windoze virtual device that's causing the crashes. Or should I be worried about a possible hardware problem?

I've started to notice some weird behaviors in the bots too, since this started, so I'm hoping it's all just the demo's fault.

Strange! I'd make sure I have the latest Direct X installed and ensure you're using the latest drivers for your video card. Are you using OpenGL? It may be something buggy with the OpenGL driver too. Make sure your monitor if it isn't set to the actual model is at least set to "Plug and Play Monitor" rather than "Default Monitor"

Those are all guesses but it's what I would do first.
