Well, I built this new gaming computer, and REALLY enjoy it a lot. Now, I have decided to build a multimedia computer to enjoy DVDs, music, and television. Now, I just have to watch for prices. I already have the
case

video card

Motherboard

Sound Card

I still need a BIG hard drive, wireless card, speakers, and monitor.

I plan on getting a Western Digital hard drive, and a Lynksys wireless card. Now, I need your help with the last two items. What speakers and monitor would you folks recommend? I want to spend about $600 on both items combined, so I am limited. Another kicker, I want one of those wide screen monitors. Does anyone use a Sceptre monitor? Like this one?

Is it good?

Also, I would like to get a nice set of speakers for a decent price. Any suggestions? These will be for watching DVDs and TV more than for gaming.

just curious, what inspired you to get another RDRAM motherboard? leftover RAM from your old machine?

You got it, Clem. I have a gig of the stuff here, and it was expensive. Aprox. $1000 just for the ram. I hate to let that go to waste.

Jarg, I see deals for 120GB drives all the time at www.fatwallet.com or www.techbargains.com. I've seen people nab these drives for under $40, lol! Go to the fatwallet "Hot Deals" section. Everyday I browse these threads to see what goodies I can add to my credit card bill ...

Wireless cards -- I've seen em "FAR" (Free After Rebate) a lot recently. I don't think they were Linksys though.

Same goes for multimedia products. I use a cheap set of no-name speakers, so I hardly ever pay attention to those threads.

Jarg,

If you have the nads and patience to do this, and you want a 160GB drive for $60, read this: http://www.fatwallet.com/forums/message ... did=266920

Thanks Mah, Bigi. I went ahead and got a 250 gig yesterday.

Bigi, That is a great price on those speakers. I may have to bite.

Well, I decided to put the basic rig together. I still have to install some parts. What are the least parts that I can get away with to see if the computer will boot. I have installed:

proc
proc fan
ram
hd
vid card
All power wires, including 12v proc, pw sw, and the like. and of course, atx.
The reason I ask is that the thing won't boot. It powers up, but no nothing to the proc. That may be my fault due to crass stupidity, but I want to be sure.

Am I missing anything?

P.S. If you have ever put together a computer from scratch, you will know what I mean here. Do you think that the person responsible for those TINY HD LED, PW SW, GRND connectors should die a slow, horrible death? Suggestions, and perhaps a name, address, or phone number would be appreciated.

Stupid S.O.B.

Agreed! I wish they would standardize that into a single idiot proof plug like the ATX power plug. To me, that is the most nerve racking part of building a PC. The only thing worse is flashing the BIOS.
