I think I read it here that Unreal and UT used the maps or they were interchangeable. I went into my Unreal install and copied from the map folder, all of the maps that started with Dm. I put them in my Unreal Maps folder and started a practice session. Quess what? It's TRUE. They do work. Ugly but they work. Funny to see some of the original versions of these maps like Ariza and Deck 16. They are very different in ways from the ones that come in UT. I'm also shocked to see what a huge difference there is between UT and the original Unreal. They too are so much the same and yet very different. Unreal is HARD! I totally hate the bots which I have set to 1 for skill with higher numbers being harder. Nameless gave me that patch for the D3D and game looks great but feels very old. I actually joined a network game too for the very first time using Unreal. That is wierd too and I was quickly fragged to death by the regs. They were so good I'm assuming they are cheating and or I just really suck worse than I thought! LOL Later!

How did you figure out how to play on the internet without a server browser in the game?

Don't forget that the strengths of the different weapons were tweaked quite a bit overall in the conversion from Unreal to UT. The flak cannon for instance fires a narrower pattern in Unreal, so its more deadly if you get hit, and bounce shots off the walls are more deadly when they hit too.

I selected multiplayer, then join game, then clicked on all 225 servers or the deathmatch tab and they populated. Was this broken before? I have the game patched up to 226 I think. Maybe it has something to do with it??? I don't think anyone should try this as I'm good in DeathMatch and three games tonight, my highest score was 4 of 30 frags. I think they all cheat but the lag may have tons to do with it to. Very frustrating. Ping is between 200 and 300. Seems like I can shoot, run forward real quick and watch my bullet fly by.

Really? I have the game patched up to v.226 as well. When I click on "Join game" in multiplayer, the game appears to freeze up solid while the music drones on. How long does it take for you to see the server browser? I get tired of waiting; assuming that the game has locked up. To escape I have to reboot. I can't raise the task manager with ctrl-alt-delete. :?

Sounds like you're using Zone Alarm firewall. I can't think of any other reason you'd lock up like that. Are you using Zone Alarm? It launches for me instantly, exactly as fast as UT does.

Did it work? If so and if you find a favorite server, let me know. I need badly to be able to beat somebody sometime! Hahahaha. No really, I'd like to test some things and determine what is with the massive lagg I get. My ping seems to stay above 250 on every server there. It's no wonder I never win. If this is how it is for you folks on CG, I can't imagine why you would even show up. Maybe I've weakened my game by being so used to sub 15 pings. I just don't ever remember lagg sucking so bad even when I played on a 233mhz PC with a 56K modem. Damn, I 'm glad those days are gone! let me know Nameless and shouldn't you be utterly focused on something else right now??? LOL Just kidding. Have a good one.

I'm completely bummed. It didn't work. Still crashed the computer mightily. Did you change anything at all in the Unreal.ini file? That must be what I need to do.

If worse comes to worst, I'll ask you to send me a copy of your .ini file, and try that. Ok?

Have you tried turning off ZoneAlarm. What OS are you on? go to Start, run, type in MSCONFIG hit enter. Uncheck the boxes that mention Zone alarm, reboot. Tell warning message not to remind you again by putting check in box at bottom of message. Start game connect Unreal servers. When you're done do all this again put check back in box for ZoneAlarm. Let us know.

I told Zone Alarm to allow Unreal full access to the internet. I don't the problem is there. It's something else. I could never get onto the net from this game on my old computer either, and back then I didn't use Zone Alarm.
