He's right Mah. CG went down at around 3:15 yesterday. An error caused it. It was called a touchto error. I don't know about that one. That one attack from spain is still occurring I thing but it doesn't matter. I think there is plenty of bandwidth to handle it with or without the attack. Laggy? I'm not going to be able to respond to that claim any longer. The server has basically been running one of two ways for the last several months and most people aren't complaining at all. I have to chalk it up to busy networks or something. Later!

I'm confused? I thought that FAH was basically Maximus and a couple others. This FAH doesn't sound like Maximus at all. I do hear the regular angry inner self and all but is this really Maximus? I'm sorry it was down for more than 4 hours before I realized it and cranked it up again. I'm sorry I'm trying to hard to run my server the best way I know how to. Also, compliments sent Herm's way do not mean that the other servers are being dissed. Bo was on the original server as long as any of us.

I happened upon Cg about a year ago now. It is by far the best server I have played... I know how hard it is to set up a great server and run it, because I tried/try.

After I joined the forums, I found there were other servers. NWRO is great, runs nice, good download speeds. I have as good a time there as on CG.

The only difference is, Herm supports his server more. He offers map downloads, he pays out of pocket for the great map downloads we get, and he keeps the masses up to date on what is going on with the server. He did such a great job that Schwantz even donated a pc to the cause.

All that takes a lot of time and dedication. If I ever get my server to that point, I will name it CG Junior.

I'm an admin here. No way. I never realized it. Shit I think I'll start wielding supreme executive power. No Hermskii I have nothing against CG really. It's more of all the unwarranted ass kissing that goes along with it. It's obvious your very dedicated to providing a great server but I notice a little bit of an Obsessive/Compulsive behavior here. Why not take the aproach that Bo has taken. Put up a rock solid server and leave it be for a while. I think the reason why your server crashes on a fairly regular basis is because you tinker way too much. I also think that your on a bit of a power trip to boot. Everytime you make the slightest change to your server you have to post about it. I think you thoroughly enjoy seeing the boards light up in response to your posts. They usually run along the lines of "Oh we love you oh mighty Server admin" and shit like that. Your sever reminds me a lot of Microsoft. It's really a so-so product that has been pushed on everyone for so long they just except it for what it is and assume there is nothing better out there.

Even though I can't speak from experience I have had numerous conversations with Bo concerning UT servers and He certainly doesnt make it out to be the daunting task that Herm would lead you to believe it was.

Your right Maximus. I post about almost everything I do to CG. I have been asked on several occasions to just leave it alone too. I do love it when people say nice things about the work I've done towards CG and no I don't expect it or rely on it. I am obsessive when it comes to my server and as you know admitting it is the first step to recovery. Your right again in that Bo runs a rock solid server. I played on it today in fact. If Bo doesn't want to watch his server as closely as I watch mine that's all up to him. I'm sure he has better things to do than to watch his PC all day like I do. He has kids and everything as I recall. I won't be nearly as dedicated to this once I have even one kid which will be coming soon! Running a server isn't hard really, not once you get it going but trying to make most of the people happy most of the time is hard. I try to do that more than most of the time which makes it exponentially extra hard. It calls for a lot of tinkering too. I miss SRA too. Those days were so much fun. I'll try to tone down the amount of changes I make and the amount of post about them too. I'm not giving up my PC or my Windows though. LOL. No way! Peace everyone especially you [FAH]Maximus.

As far as I can tell, most of the personalities/personas on here from SRA until now have remained fairly constant. A few have changed, but for the most part, everyone is as he has been.

Why are you baggin on Herm for doing a good job on the server? Are you going to get on Andreas's case next for adding the avatar-upload function to the forums and announcing it? What precisely would you prefer?

And you should feel good about nice things folk say about you or your server but they way some folks fall over themselves to do it is just sickening. You wield almost Jim Jones like power over the flock here. Is it time to pass out the cool aid yet? :twisted:



Why are you sitting there watching your server. isn't the idea to set it up and it does everything else on it's own. I'm glad you are thinking of having children Herm. When your child comes up to you the first time and tells you that you should spend more time with them then playing on your computer then it will finally hit home. Trust me I know this one from experience. Hence the reason why I don't play much anymore. (Though I do find the time to harass you folks.)

I've kept my mouth shut for a good long while now because of nothing to really say but after reading thru all of this thread I can't help but laugh my ass off at it. Everybody here makes valid points all around.......each to there own and the term "opinions are like assholes.......everybody has one" pretty much fits this case.

As far as I know there are only 2 servers up and running which would be CG and NWRO. From personal experience in the past NW seems to run better to me than CG when it comes to overall game play. Don't get me wrong.....like both but have better luck at one place compaired to another.

I'm not here to kiss ass or suck up to anybody but I think Max makes some pretty valid points of the grand sceme of things. Yes there is alot of ass kissing going on and Herm likes the God trip I do believe but there is alot more to life guys and gals than a $10 video game from walmart.......ALOT MORE!!!! I have a 2 year old daughter and have been spending as much time with her as I possibly can due to the fact that I have been divorced for almost a year now. Hince the reason nobody has seen very much of me lately.

I've enjoyed my time playing and watching this group grow and have enjoyed all the craziness from time to time. But as for now I'm keeping my gameplay to a minimum to have more time for the more important things in life like family and friends. No this is not the end of me playing UT. I'll still be around from time to time to throw a couple of rockets around for amusement.

CRT has already rotted my brain.

No one disputes there are more important things in life. We all have tons of shit to do. That's why it's been nice to come waste time blowing stuff up. Many times the games turn into chat sessions or orgies with the nalicow.

People enjoy coming to a place that isn't like the Yahoo news/politics boards. They appreciate it, and they say so. People post jokes, and others laugh and respond. People ask critical questions about the deficiencies of the one-button mouse. Who the hell cares if they do? Herm hasn't asked anyone to send money or drink poisoned cool aid. In fact, he doesn't ask anyone to do anything at all. He maintains a server that is consistently full, and he updates it a lot. People enjoy the new maps, his considering new mutators like the grapplehook, and they say the appreciate it. Who cares if this is the case? How else should it be?

Ass-kissing is always what the other guy gets; respect is what you deserve but don't get enough of.
