A little help from the techies please,

I thought that my current problems playing Unreal were related to my Video Card and/or Driver. Going back and trying the past two generations of Video Drivers there was no improvement to be found.

Next step was uninstalling UT and re-installing same. Still no improvement.

As the problems would persist I would pay more, and more attention to any irregularities in the system.

Earlier with everything closed other than Explorer and four windows of Netscape I found there where not enough resources left to print a page. I opened the resource meter and it showed the following:

System resources: 20% free, User resources: 59% free, GDI resources 20% free.

Understand these numbers do not mean a whole lot to me. At this point restarting the system was in order, after which I closed everything except Explorer, opened four windows of Netscape, and fired up the resource meter again. This time the results greatly differed from those earlier.

System resources: 75% free, User resources: 76% free, GDI resources 75% free.

OS Name: Microsoft Windows, Version 4.90.3000 Build 3000 Millennium
Processor: Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 1400MHz Genuine Intel ~1396 Mhz
BIOS Version: Phoenix BIOS 4.0 Release 6.0
Total Physical Memory: 1,023.45 MB
Available Physical Memory: 635.17 MB
Total Virtual Memory: 2.00 GB
Available Virtual Memory: 1.49 GB
Page File Space: 1.00 GB
Video Card: NVIDIA RIVA TNT2/TNT2 Pro
Sound Card: Creative SB Live! Wave Device

DEVICE: ACPI IRQ, PNP DEVICE I.D.: Holder for PCI IRQ Steering ACPI\*PNP0C0F\00000005, ERROR CODE: 22

Just now while trying to open a screen shot from UT to retrieve some suggestions from others (screen shots didn’t take) I just got a critical error telling me “I’d run out of virtual memory and would need to free up some space on my primary hard drive to avoid this in the future”. I have freed up additional space on my primary hard drive to 13.1 gigs, one would think that would be plenty, UT still runs choppy/jerky.

Damned just got a warning 90% of systems resources are in use. To free up additional resources close some opened programming (or something like that). Lets see what’s opened, Explorer, Explorer on drive C:, Netscape (5 windows), Word 97 SR-1. I should be able to run a hell of a lot more applications then that.

If I use the restore disk that came with my computer what do I stand to loose?

Any help and/or constructive suggestions greatly appreciated.

Best regards to all, Skank 8)

ME tends to be sketchy on its memory allocation. I believe I had a similar problem, system resources getting eaten up by unreleased programs in memory. I haven't ran ME for a while, but when I did, I think I used RamBooster to stabilize my system.

You might try it and see if it helps you any.

Thanks to |3iGi also,
Used the link, downloaded and unzipped the file, but everytime I go to install it locks the whole damn system up. Am searching for another download in case that one was bad.

And a special thanks to my fair Lady Sci,
I would place questions I already knew the answer to just to have her write me. Hugs & kisses Sci

I thought that Millenium only supported 512 megs of ram? Am I mistaken?

I still use Cacheman on my system, even though I have a gig of ram. I like that it tells me the amount of ram being used as well as free memory.

Didn't see yo luking about. Oh the time we all used to have. So many MIA these days. But some damned good people have also been added to the role.

I want to thank everyonre for there help with my 'puter problems. She's a runnin sweet again 8) most of the help came from a forum http://www.webuser.co.uk/ that ThE OnE pointed me at.

Learned a few things there too. Anyone have Comcast? If so check this out.

If you are a Comcast customer, de-install "Comcast Support" through the Add/Remove icon in your Control Panel. Next, look up BJCFD in these Task List Pages. In all cases, if the de-installation of Comcast Support does not remove T G C M D after a reboot, then immediately disable T G C M D using Starter! tgcmd is a support program that comcast uses, it allows tech support where they connect to your computer and can see what you are doing, what web sites you are visiting and what you are downloading, it's basically SPYWARE. This same information applies to Sony Vaio.

Also if you have got P2P software on your system, check out the list of clean (safe) and infected (spyware) P2P software on the "
Safe List Page List".

Again thank you all, Skank

Yeah,

Comcast are just a bunch of Network Nazis. I booted them 2 years ago in favor of my DSL line and I have never looked back.

Their cable service was down and they did not allow me to use dial-up to get to my mail. Fucking punks! They told me they owned my mail and I did not have rights to it. Well, whenever they call me and ask me to sign up, I'll tell them to FUCK OFF. No more business with them.

For all you guys running your serves, be aware, they can shut you down for a violation of contract.

I feel much better now!

Hi ya toots,
Did you try the search/find option and enter "comcast support"? If you don't have it thats cool. I found it on mine and removed it ASAP. It's amazing the stuff you find on your 'puter. I run Adware6 & Spybot all the time sometimes I'll go weeks with out picking up any crap then all of a sudden there's a couple of dozen items. I also like to run window washer another good program.

See ya in my dreams Blondie

Heya Skank

Sorry wasn't on the last few days except a couple times, and didn't see your cry for help. What can I say -- buy a Mac, lol!!! Just kidding.

I was going to go with Comcast, because everyone in Seattle I've talked to seems to go that route, but if you don't have the cable TV service, it's $52/mo!!! That's frickin highway robbery for inconsistent speeds. Plus, you have to pay for the modem. If I go with Earthlink DSL up here, the first 3 mos are $19.95, plus I get 10,000 Northwest airline miles, plus no activation/installation fees, and free modem. Comcast can kiss it.

PS: Our downspout in the front of the house is clogged. guess iIt empties down the small hill near the street, but I can't find any exit spout. Could the downspout empty directly into the sewer? The water is pooled up in the front and seeping into the basement. It may have been collapsed for a long time, and the owners never disclosed it. Can I snake this thing?
