Have you ever played with the Grappling Hook in Quake III before? I have and it was a blast! Our friend Cruz@n mentioned that he thought I should get it and try it out. I had seen the mod a long time ago but couldn't get it to work. I went out and got it again and got it to work this time! Talk about FUN!!! It replaces the translocator. Your translocator still looks the same but when you left click, it shoots a hook on a cable all the way to whatever you pointed it at. Once the hook hits something, it automatically starts to reel you in to it very fast. It doesn't matter what you shoot, it will take you straight to it. If you shoot a person, it takes you straight to them and damages them till they die. That takes all of 3 seconds. You can shoot the roof, get reeled up to it, change weapons and fire while you hang from the roof like James Bond. Switch back to the translocator and right click to be disconnected and run or fall or whatever you want to do. I will be toying with this further. I don't think it will ever make it to CG but it's worth playing with for sure! Just a FYI. Thanks Crux@n for this very fun find.

One of the UT servers I played a lot on a couple of years back had the grappling hook mod. It really is a lot of fun.

Sounds like a lot of fun. I especially like the part about reeling into another player for a kill. For piston challenged players like me, that would be a welcome change.

Herm, are you saying that a similar mod to this QIII grappling hook has been written for UT?

If you use this mod, can you still have the transloc also? Or does it replace the transloc?

Yeah, let's give it a go -- could be funny as hell!

I agree. It will change Crane and Dark City for the better, I'm sure.

The mod does exist for UT. Can be found at file planet.

Pretty neat.

I installed the mod, and messed with the arena match settings...and finnaly got it to play arena match with the grappler.

It would be cool to play with the grappler and the redeemer, but I can't get them to work. The two mods interfere with each other, and the one highest in the list wins.

I got it to work on arena match by adding the following lines to the arenamatch.int file:
Object=(Name=CGrapple.Grapple,Class=Class,MetaClass=EnhancedItems.EnhancedWeapons,Description="Grapple Mutation, Replace translocators with GrappleLaunchers.")
Object=(Name=CGrapple.C_GrappleLauncher,Class=Class,MetaClass=EnhancedItems.EnhancedWeapons,Description="Grapple Mutation, Replace translocators with GrappleLaunchers.")

Then you can select it under other weapons.

Anyone know how I can get it to play with the grapple and the redeemer. I gave up.

Yes, it's fun! Yes, it's been made for UT. No I haven't tried it yet with the redeemer. Yes, it does replace the translocator as far as usage but it looks exactly like the translocator. I'm out of town and don't have access to my gaming machine right now or to CG. I look into it closely when I get back to Houston next week. Happy Turkey Day all.
