I haven't gotten any in months and months. Are you guys giving out your email addresses at websites? Or can they be "harvested" from the server browsers of UT?

The ones I get don't even have my email right, just close. I'm sick of it and ready to try anyrhing to stop it. I have two email addresses. One is my regular and one is my player. The player gets no spam. The original gets it all.

Herm, most likely either you gave your email to a site or a friend did....I am sure you know many sites collect and sell email addresses. I ran into the same problem when my mom sent me some funpage crap to my email on yahoo. It took me about a year to get rid of the spam....I kept clicking the unsubscribe links in the emails....

It was so bad that I signed up for a hotmail account, and now I just use that yahoo account for crap. I log in about once a month or so. (yahoos non support of MS Exprees dl also had a play in that.)

FIXXES:
The best way to fix the prob is to delete your email accout and get a new one.

If you are unable to delete...:
Do you use an email program such as outlook. It provides keyword filtering. If you don't, is it plausible to switch to a dl capable prog. If you just access you email via web....there is really now way to filter, aside from what your email provider offers.

Norton Internet Security 2003 has a spam blocker that I find is somewhat effective. Also the newest version of Netscape has a spam blocker that works fairly well. It will move the offending mail to a folder for a quick review or it will delete it automatically. Check on TechTv's website as well for other software.

I'm like you -- I get 5 or 6 spams for every one legitimate email. And for the last week or so, I have been getting that virus from the fake Microsoft Security Patch email like 4 times per day.

Spam is just as bad as (and often more fraudulent than) telemarketers. I wish we could pass and enforce legislation that would fine the hell out of spammers. Of course, I guess that could only be done at the expense of whatever little privacy we have left on the internet ...

I read an itneresing article on the do not call list the other day. Good reading.
http://www.fortune.com/fortune/valuedri ... 48,00.html

Just incase you don't have time to read the hole thing, this is the part I found really interesting:

"Even more remarkable is what happened next. Within hours of the registry's opening in June, Americans rushed to their phones and computers and put their home numbers on the list (business numbers aren't allowed) at the incredible rate of 158 phone numbers per second. In the first three days we put 13.6 million phone numbers on the registry. Within nine weeks, by the Aug. 31 deadline to be on board for the Oct. 1 prohibition, there were 48 million numbers.

Based on Federal Trade Commission data, we can estimate that this represents more than 40 million people who took action to get telemarketers out of their lives. Let's put that number in perspective. The IRS couldn't even get 1.9 million people to collect their 1999 tax refunds by the April 15, 2003, deadline—free money, but it was too much trouble. After weeks of promotion, about 15 million people watched Whoopi, NBC's new top-rated sitcom, and all they had to do was push a button on the remote. Only 25 million Americans have done any aerobic exercise in the past year—but heck, that's just a matter of life and health. For that matter, only 39 million of us went to a bar or nightclub in the past 12 months. "

I run Spamassassin on my mailservers:

http://www.spamassassin.org/

They also have aversion that plugs into Outlook, I think.

Good luck

you know how many files in that file N6NU I don't have clue.Install txt. don't help either
******************************
INSTALLATION
******************************

1 - Copy the SpamAssassin folder and all it's contents to c:\Program Files

2 - Open Outlook, Select Tools | Macro | Visual Basic Editor

3 - Double click the "ThisOutLookSession" object on the left pane

4 - Paste in the code from the file "NewMail Event.txt"

5 - Close the VB Editor, click Yes when asked to save

******************************
TESTING
******************************

To verify SpamAssassin is working...

1 - Put a few messages in your inbox, mark them as UNREAD (if you need samples of spam and not-spam messages, see the files "sample-spam.txt" and "sample-nonspam.txt")

2 - Open the VB Editor in Outlook (Tools | Macro | Visual Basic Editor)

3 - Click somewhere in the NewMail code

4 - Press the Run button (it looks like the play button on a VCR)

5 - You may be prompted for a profile, just select your default profile

6 - You may be asked if you want to allow an external program to access outlook, click yes

7 - Look at the messages in your inbox, those SpamAssassin has found to be spam should have "*****SPAM*****" in the subject

Hey N6NU,

Do you pay for your spam assassin? I have windows so i have to use a different program that they point me to but it is only free for trial and only last 15 days. Look at the site you sent me and go to the Windows version and see what I mean. I don't know what Scify is talking about here. The program I would have to download isn't even called spam assassin. I'm up to about 20 spams for each real email I get now. WTF?
