The burning smell is from the update that was set to run maxtor harddrives......it runs them backwards or something. Seems to be an issue running the correct way, so they flipped it.

:-)

I've been checking Windoze Update every day since sp2 screwed up the auto download. It was finally there for me to go and get. Took about an hour to d/l, install, and configure. SEEMS ok so far, but I've only been using it for about 10 minutes.

Found my first problem with SP2:

It's messed up the drivers for my Epson 2200 printer. All of my prints are coming out really dark now. And I mean like "the flash didn't go off" kind of dark. :-x

Hi TheOne,
What version of XP were you using? I'm using XP Profesional (5.01.2600 service pack 2) and didn't have any problems with Nero.

Nero Burning Rom 6.3.1.6

Nero Vision Express 2.1.2.0

Nero Show Time 1.5.0.17

InCD 4.1.5.10

Alcohol 120% 1.4.8.12

DirectX 9.0c

Only thing looks funny is when I run "Nero Info Tool" under ASPI tab it says "ASPI file(s) are missing". What in the hell is an ASPI file?

Ciao, Skank

XP Home 5.01.2600 service pack 2

Burning Rom 6.3.1.20
Start Smart 1.0.1.25
Cover Designer 2.3.0.11
Back Up 1.2.0.20
Direct X 9c

ASPI files ...........................

The ASPI drivers allow CDDA32 and DAT2WAV the ability to talk to the CDROM/DAT drives. Between Microsoft and Adaptec, the ASPI driver situation is completely screwed up. There are more versions of the ASPI32 drivers available than you can count. We will attempt to explain what versions you should use under what configurations.

The four files needed for WinNT/2K/XP are the following:
(example: WINNT is the WindowsNT home directory)
WINNT\SYSTEM\WINASPI.DLL
WINNT\SYSTEM\WOWPOST.EXE
WINNT\SYSTEM32\WNASPI32.DLL
WINNT\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\ASPI32.SYS

The four files needed for Win95/98/Me are the following:
(example: WIN95 is the Windows95 home directory)
WIN95\SYSTEM\IOSUBSYS\APIX.VXD
WIN95\SYSTEM\WINASPI.DLL
WIN95\SYSTEM\WNASPI32.DLL
and ONE of the following two files
WIN95\SYSTEM\ASPIENUM.VXD (this is the file that comes from Adaptec)
WIN95\ASPI2HLP.SYS (this is the file that comes with Win95)

Can someone verify this for me.

Since I have installed SP2, I can no longer install Java on my machine. Is anyone else having problems with Java?

I had it already but I'd go to www.dslreports.com tools and test, speed test, get the java from there on their link. I did have much trouble with it once before till I got it from a different place. That was just a couple of months ago but still well before SP2 came out.

I use Shareaza and had no connect problems at 1st. I had to do what they called "Port Forward". I think it's like an assigned hole in the fire wall. That are turn the fire wall off when P2Ping
