These folks have released a new mini ptch for UT. It's called 451b. I will be installing it to CG on Sunday.

OK, the new patch is installed and I must say that it seems like it has speeded up gameplay about 15%. I hope the crash it fixes is the one CG has suffered from for years. We'll see. I can't wait till they let the complete patch out!

I saw this post last week and figured I would try this patch out due to some problems I've been having off and on with my server. Lotus can back me up on this one but right after installing the patch my server started doing some crazy stuff I have never seen out of it ever.

Here are a few examples of what happened:

1. DarkCity came up as the map and after a few seconds the server kicks me and pretty much everybody else off of the server. No problems rejoining the server but after a minute or two it kicked again.

2. Upon return to the server the names changed (PLAYER1, PLAYER2 and so on). A quick rejoin would fix the name tho.

These are the two that I have witnessed personally and Lotus was around to witness it all too. If anything else has happened besides these crazy things let me know. I think I am gonna go back to an earlier patch to see if it helps out. I won't be doing this until Tuesday evening sometime so if you see something odd happening please let me know.

Herm....have any clue why when somebody connects to the server it shows at least 2 connections for each person in the console. As in 4 real people on the server and showing 8 connections.....just always bothered me and have no clue why it does that.

Agreed Kid, that was weird how it booted us during the match. Logging back on was strange considering that as earlier mentioned our names changed to Player 1, Player 2, etc. I was playing on CG this afternoon and didn't experience any problems....however was not there during a match on the "Dark City" map. So far so good Herm...I'll check it out tonight, and if anything occurs I'll let cha know. Hopefully this problem is related to the new patch, at least then we'll know what the concern is.

Hey Herm, was playing at CG earlier and looks like it crashed. BK was there including a couple of newbs. Might that be due to that new patch you've been trying??? Just dropping a line to inform ya.

CG has crashed twice in two days. Both are related to the new patch. I have emails in to the UTPG team. My error log used to point at an issue on the R: drive line 262. Now they point to the G: drive line 262. These are virtual drives the game makes from the patch I guess. You can't actually access them but this is why I know they are patch related crashes. I'll post it here if I get any answers.

Ok Herm,

You happen to know what would be the quickest/easiest way to revert to an older patch? Like an idiot I just installed the patch without any sort of backing it up and since I have no clue what all the patch updated file wise I'm not sure what would be the best way to go back to an earlier patch. Can you just reinstall an older version and it write over the new one or is it looking like I am gonna have to reinstall the server? Just wanted to pick somebody's brain before I got knee deep into it.

Thanks for any/all help in advance,

I did the same. I don't know the answer but CG hasn't crashed today! Anyway, the only way I could think of would be download and expand the old 451 patch. Then do the same to the new one. Match file for file. If the new one has more or less, then you're screwed. I'm screwed too but I'll just wait to the 451 final. There is no way I'm just going to rebuild the server. Way too much trouble for me. Good luck.

Thanks for the quick response. Amazingly today my server hasn't crashed (knocking on wood) but every day since I installed the B version it has crashed so maybe I got lucky. I'll see what files are in those patches and give ya a heads up when I find out something.

Thanks again,

It may be some type of interaction with unpatched clients that is causing the crash....that may explain why it is intermittent

Man oh man......I think I've come to my wits end on this one. Well I have to say that I am not sure anymore if it is the patch doing the crashing or if it is my router acting up all the sudden or even possibly my network card but my little server sure has been acting flakey as of late. I decided to let the patch run alittle longer after seeing the server run for more than a day or two without crashing. Well I just found out while at work it has crash but yet AGAIN. Always seems to crash when I am gonna be away from home for more than a few hours (go figure).

Well I have another install of a server I started awhile back when I was in the process of cleaning up so this might be an easy fix as far as the server part is concerned. Gonna give it a try tonight and see what happens. If I still get the crash stuff then it might be the other problems I listed above then I will have to figure something else out.

Just wanted to fill everybody in on what the deal was.

P.S. I have been looking at UT2004 and from what I have seen it is a pretty tight game. I have been debating on trying to run a dedicated server for it but I am not sure if my little server box would be able to handle it. Does anybody know if a P3 650 would be able to handle this task by chance? I know the system specs just to run the game are at least a 1.0 Ghz processor.....

It would work I bet. A PIII 650 is no slouch. About the patch now, I have been up for a couple of days now. I looked further into the error and it seems it's some kind of a forced attempt to connect a slow player I think. I increased the bandwidth for each player from 3000 to 5000 on CG. It hasn't crashed again since. I changed a couple of other things too but can't remeber what exactly. Oh yeah, I raised the min game version to connect from 432 to 436 in the .ini . Maybe it will help you some. Good luck.

Hey Kid....FYI..., I was playing this afternoon with Trecker and all was well, then Brutal Killer came on line and POOF....server down. If you recall on Mar. 31 same situation occurred, BK online and once again .....POOF! Maybe BIGI has a valid point.....donno........ to 451 or not to 451.....lol. Noticed CG was also down today; wasn't around for that one Herm........hmmmm is it maybe due to my computer?????

It's not you buddy. CG did crash again at 1:30 right as a player called the blob logged in. I've seen it crash as Brutal connects too. I'm sure he's not trying to do it. The error is a "Assertion failed:" error. It means one of two things. Thenew player has a bad connection and the server crashes or goes out of spec trying real hard to complete a connection at the last possible second or it's a patch mismatch error of some sort. I can't get answers from anyone about it. Hang in there Lotus. You too Brutal. It would be interesting to know if we crashed within 5 minutes of one another. Let me know if possible. CG crashed at 13:26 Cental standard time.
