For the sake of stirring things up here again.....

Yet another individual who wants to destroy the fabric of our great nation. Since when did the minority become the voice of America. If ya don't wanna say the pledge than just sit there and shut up. I wish California would secede from the U.S. already.

Hey
If they secede will you grant me asylum on the grounds of political persecution? It's unfortunate that with California having so much to offer the loonies seem to be running the house. Help!!!!!!!!!

Now Bigs,
Don’t you think you should include the Marxists, Socialists, Leninists and Hippies along with the Commies? You wouldn’t want to be branded prejudiced now would ya. Even though there was a time that having the forethought and insight to pre-judge was considered a virtue, talent and/or art. Ask any bookmaker :toothy5:

You all know I didn't start the shit pot but can not help but fire up the ol' Evenrude and give it a good stirrin'. Its in my nature. Thats why the scorpion stung the frog one half way across the creek. :bunny:

I really don't know much about them. I do own one though. Bought it mail order was a pre 1898 re-chambered for some caliber I don't even remember now. The cartridges are old German the a head stamp of a double headed Eagle and a date circa 1936. Came with the bayonet and stripper clips for about $69.

I love mail order ;-)

I thought I would share this email I got.

Since the Pledge of Allegiance

and

The Lord's Prayer

are not allowed in most
public schools anymore

because the word "God" is mentioned....

a kid in Arizona wrote the attached
NEW
School
prayer

I liked it....
Now I sit me down in school

Where praying is against the rule

For this great nation under God

Finds mention of Him very odd.

If Scripture now the class recites,

It violates the Bill of Rights.

And anytime my head I bow

Becomes a Federal matter now.

Our hair can be purple, orange or green,

That's no offense; it's a freedom scene.

The law is specific, the law is precise.

Prayers spoken aloud are a serious vice.

For praying in a public hall

Might offend someone with no faith at all.

In silence alone we must meditate,

God's name is prohibited by the state.

We're allowed to cuss and dress like freaks,

And pierce our noses, tongues and cheeks.

They've outlawed guns, but FIRST the Bible.

To quote the Good Book makes me liable.

We can elect a pregnant Senior Queen,

And the 'unwed daddy,' our Senior King.

It's "inappropriate" to teach right from wrong,

We're taught that such "judgments" do not belong.

We can get our condoms and birth controls,

Study witchcraft, vampires and totem poles.

But the Ten Commandments are not allowed,

No word of God must reach this crowd.

It's scary here I must confess,

When chaos reigns the school's a mess.

So, Lord, this silent plea I make:

Should I be shot; My soul please take!

Amen

I found it very touching.

I say leave our pledge alone.

Hotts

FahQ I have a couple of Mausers. I have a VZ 24 Czech, and a Yugoslavian k98a.

The Czech's bore is almost done, but still will hit the steel really well. The Yugo is unissued, and only test fired. Not a scratch on it. I think its a 'Mitchell Mauser" but dont have any paperwork on it. All the serials match up luckily.

Possibly the strongest and most reliable action in the world, Enfield enthusiasts might disagree, but Ive owned them too and still really love the MAuser.

I shoot from the bench sometimes, but mostly off hand, and both rifles are dead on at 100 yards into 10" sq. steel plates.
If you are recoil sensitive...welllllll. Heh heh heh!

Both of mine are chambered for 8MM (7.92 actually). Ammo is freakin cheap ($30 +shipping for 380 rounds)!!!! But corrosive, so get some ballistol or learn how to clean out corrosive salts the old fashioned way (hot water).

Mausers should still be cheap...buy it man...I have friends with Mausers Wayyyyyy more beat up than mine and still shoot freakin beautifully!!!! Iron sights are the way to go sometimes.

The one I may buy is a k98. I'm pretty sure this one was one of the many that were taken apart after WWII en masse and then slapped back together after being cleaned up and tested without worrying about matching numbers back up again. Similar to what the U.S. had done with many of it's surplus rifles after WWII (m1 Garand for instance). It would be nice to get a completely original piece but they are quite expensive.

I'm going to go look at it this weekend at a gun show in PA. I've gone to Mitchell's Mausers but almost everything they have in my price range is out of stock and the ones that aren't are all the ones that have matching numbers and are in the $1000's.

Thanks for the info though MM. If the gun is nice I will more than likely pick it up. This will be my first purchase of a real rifle. Luckily I'll have a friend with me who knows a thing or two about rifles as well. so I'm sure he'll let me know if it's worth it. T

The only other rifle I have is my 1861 Springfield muzzle loader and I've never fired that live. Once I get out to the range this will be my first experience live firing. So looking forward to it. From what you have said it sounds like I am making a good choice for a first rifle.

Seriuosly man, listen to me here. Dont make your entry level rifle be a $1000 WWII rifle. They are out there. But that whole collection group is waaaay beyond me.

My Czech has the crest ground off, a couple of mismatched numbers (floorplate), and I have sporterizd it (took off all the upper wood, cut back lower stock and releived/then glass bedded the action), recrowned the barrel, refinished the remaining stock, and pretty soon I am gonna splurge and buy a $130 new barrel with porting in .308. I think I paid a whole $80 for it.

The unissued Yugo was a gift, so I have no idea how much that was.

Buy a simple gun first, shoot the shit out of it, then move on. After that its just an infection!

LOL......shudder....

if you collect....do the research....

if you wanna shoot.....buy what feels right. If you have a place to shoot, and you plan on doing a lot of it......well...then yer screwed...HAHHAHAHAHHAH!!!LOL!!! Sorry ....not kidding....

Mitchells are really nice. And they have all the accessories in the package deal (bayonnete, cleaning kit, etc). But I havent priced his weapons in a while, so I have no idea where he starts and ends in $, y'know. There are a lot of vendors who have a multitude of different Mausers. My advice is see it up front, like through your gunsmith or at a gunshow or shop.

I buy parts off the web and through ads, but I havent done the 'sight unseen' rifle/pistol purchase. I really like feelin the thing in my hands and so on.

Most Mausers are pretty beat up. However looks can be deceiving. After I got my first Mauser(the VZ24) I had like 4 friends go out and buy one because they were only like $90!! They got Yugos I think, and one egyptian. All of em look like shit, but shoot phenominally!!!

All the bores I've seen are gray, so dont go looking for a chrome line shiny bore. Most of the ones I've seen have minor pitting, but I have also seen some sewer pips!

Mauser is a killer entry rifle. Big round. Big boom. Lots of fun!!!
