We can "hunt down" very low signal emissions if required to do so. A moving "target" is certainly much more difficult to track but out equipment is capable to do so. It was more common in the past to go out and find people purposly interfering with public safety or emergency service frequencies, but that hasn't been a big problem lately. Many forms of interference are unintentional but still require us to find the source and make sure the client gets their equipment fixed. We've been finding that some very "inexpensive" dvd players put out interfering signal to aeronautical frequencies. Got one like that this week.

Here's a photo of one of our van's equipment console. The top box is a Cubic 4400 Direction Finder. The middle unit is an older ICOM R-7000 receiver and the bottom is an HP Spectrum analyzer. All of these tools combined are used to DF or locate sources of interference.

By the way nameless.. I think my GRS licence was XM11-5609.. LOL..now that dates us!

So it was either that van with all of the equipment or a Mac computer eh? I know, I know, budget restrictions made you go with the van instead of a iPirateCatchingiPod...

It wasn't too cool this week.. we were patroling for signals around Vancouver Intl Airport and it was 90 Degrees F out. The vans air conditioning doesn't work too well when you moving at 5 mph...

However, it's a nice break from paperwork in the office.

LOL funny thread!

My man, if you are rolling along at 5 mph, you should stick a loudspeaker on top, play "The Entertainer," and sell popsicles and icecream sandwiches!!!

PS: 93F in Seattle today!!! wtf!
