SMC is a brand.

Skank, I have had nothing but problems with Linksys -- all driver problems like yours, I might add.

Check out the Linksys site for troubleshooting tips. SOmetimes the full uninstall requires that you go manually delete shit out of the registry. Then you can reinstall properly.

I went back to that Microsoft page to down load and try the hotfix. What a joke. Says

"To resolve this problem immediately, download the fix by clicking the download link later in this article or contact Microsoft Product Support Services to obtain the fix. For a complete list of Microsoft Product Support Services phone numbers and information about support costs, visit the following Microsoft Web site:"

1) There is no download link

2) For a complete list of Microsoft Product Support Services phone numbers and information about support COSTS

3)I have a request into Linksys for help maybe they won't be dicks or will they?

Thanks for the input troops, any and all suggestions are appreciated.

Caio, Skank

I think you know what I'm going to say.

I have a linksys and have no problems buddy. I'd hate to say it(no that's not tue, I take great glee out of saying this) but it sounds like an OS issue yet again.

I think you made the right choice in routers though. Good Luck.

Unistall the cards and install the software first is my best guess, then put the cards back in and boot but put them in different PCI slots and for sure, DON'T put them in the one slot that is closest to the AGP slot. Let us know.

Tried this on both Towers.

Windows® XP/2000

1. Click the Start button and select Run.
2. In the text box, type msconfig and click the OK button.
3. Select Selective Startup.
4. Uncheck Startup Items and click the OK button.
5. Click the Exit Without Restart button.
6. Right-click the My Computer icon.
7. Select the Hardware tab and then click the Device Manager button.
8. Click the plus (+) sign next to Ethernet Controllers.
9. Right-click icon that has the "yellow exclamation point" and select Delete.
10.Insert the Solutions CD that came with your drive into the CD-ROM. This will
install the driver.
11.Restart the computer.

It sucked.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tried this on one Tower.

Try removing the card. Then do the following:
1. Goto command prompt, type the following SET DEVMGR_SHOW_NONPRESENT_DEVICES=1
2. Then goto the Device Manager, View -> Show Hidden Devices
3. Remove all instances of the Firewire card
4. Reinstall the card and let it redetect and install the drivers.

This really sucked. Locked up while re-installing the drivers, Computer will not reboot, not even in safe mode. Someone said theres a way to restart to the last good boot but didn't share how  Anyone know what he was talking about :?:

Guess tomorrow I'll try the second fix on the second Tower. Maybe that will go better.

Maybe this is a clue to the problem. I keep having to try a manual install on the driver. When I try to let it autorun the CD spins up I get a blue rectangle in the middle of the screen then it stops. The blue rectangle looks like the background from the install screen from the router. But this one isn't up long enough to load any text/instructions.

Catch ya all later, Skank

Go get the drivers from the internet from the card manufacturer's website. Try it like that.
