Good idea! I do have a wireless router. I'll pick up a PCI wireless network card soon and give it a go. I think I had planned to do that and forgot. I put an airport card in the wifes mac. It connected pretty easy and works fast too. Hmmmmmm? Wireless! What is your router? Right now I'm just using the mac address security mode. You know, only nic cards with the assigned MAC address get access. Is that enough do you think?

If someone wants to get into your machine and they're good, they can do it.

Mac addressed can be "spoofed," and most people generally say that it is not enough. You should also use WEP if you can. Maybe N6NU can say more about this.

Yes, MAC addresses can be spoofed, but first they have to find out wich one you allow :-)

I use WEP for security as well.

I also placed the base station close to the floor to reduce the range. As soon as you leave my place you will be unable to pickup the signal. It pays to be a Ham Radio operator at times :-)

I am using a Cabletron RoamAbout access point. Yes, I filter by MAC and use WEP. I also limited the range by placing the unit close to the ground. No reason to try to cover the whole neighborhood :-)

Um, bring it back and keep it up. I'll be up and down for the next several weeks.

I notice that it is down again, so I will comply. I really need to put new maps on. The speed has been pumped up a little.
I may take it down from time to time as this is my main machine. Sometimes I need to use it for other things. Just put it in your fav's and you will know when it's up.

Edit
I am having problems getting the server to show up in the browser. Sigh.... It may not be up for a while....
