I went to www.unrealtournament.com to get the server only download and they have changed the page so much that I can't find anything. They don't offer that download anymore and in my opinion, yhe page is far more confusing now. They don't even call UT Unreal Tournament there. It's called UT Goty which is a variation of UT. I've also searched for instructions on starting from a batch file to no avail. The instructions they have are always for a ctf game or infiltration. Grrrrrr. UT isn't supposed to be a pain. Granted that the old web page was brown and ugly but it at least offered everything and was easy to navigate.

herm, I don't know how much of this you already know, but I hope it helps.

....here is my batch file...

cd "c:\program files\unrealtournament\system"
:Restart
UnrealTournament.exe server DM-Crane.unr?Game=BotPack.DeathMatchPlus?Mutator=BDBMapVote304.BDBMapVote,Relics.RelicDeath,Relics.RelicSpeed,Relics.RelicRegen,Relics.RelicRedemption,Relics.RelicDefense,Relics.RelicStrength,ArenaMatch.ArenaPhysicsMutator,ArenaMatch.ArenaMatchMutator?Listen -lanplay -server log=server.log
Goto Restart

first use 'cd' command to change to your ut directory.

set a line for a goto command ':Restart'

The first part of the command line should be
'UnrealTournament.exe '

Then, after you got your server set the way you want, start your sever in dedicated mode...right click the icon to bring up Console....goto the sixth line of the UT console on start up, should read 'init: command line: server blah blah

Also, you can get this info from the sixth line of your server.log file in your system folder.

copy 'server' and everything after into the same line as the UnrealTourenament.exe line

Then make a 'Goto Restart' command....so when the server crashes, it will goto the restart line and start the server again.

That is beautiful. Much more info than my batch has. I'll let you know in a few days. When you start your's like this, does it leave an icon in your system tray or do you need to minimize it to the task bar?

server only install

go to http://unreal.epicgames.com/

click on Downloads in left frame
click on Unreal Tournament Downloads in right frame
you should see a section for server only downloads
use the 3dgamers link (it has the 436 dedicated server and the 451 patch)

it goes straight to the task bar. It does leave the batch command window up though. If you close the window it ends the batch file and if the server crashes won't restart. You can minimize it though.

I am not sure if there is a way using the dos command line to make the batch run in the background also, but there may be a way using the newer win2k cmd file....I haven't read that far on the new commands yet.

I am pretty sure if you write a program in visual basic to call the command lines from a VB program that you can make it run in the back ground though.
