I meant to post this a long time ago but kept forgetting until now. I had several issues lately while trying to use a Voodoo card on a Compaq and several other video cards on other machines. Let me cut straight to the chase:
Make sure that the monitor you have selected in the display properties isn't "Default Monitor". Make sure it is either the actual monitor brand and model or at least set it to plug and play monitor. You will avoid a ton of stupid video issues if you just make sure that you don't have "Default Monitor" selected as your monitor.
I can't wait to hear about all of the people who were doing this by accident and now get a better picture with higher frame rates and all of that stuff. Fess up if you are one of them. You're welcome!
